Marrying HelloTXT and mailVU

I’m making the switch from ping.fm to HelloTXT to publish short posts to CleverJots.com more easily. In fact, I created this very update using the convenient Status Update form on the web interface of HelloTXT after I specified this WordPress blog as my preferred endpoint. Besides the web interface there are mobile clients and an e-mail gateway that seems to fit seamlessly with another service I want to tell you about first.

@mailVU is a very nifty, free web service to create private video email messages. The service was launched in 2010 and I’ve personally been fancying it for a couple of months now. There’s no sign-up required. Messages can be up to 10 minutes long, and you can set a message to expire either in a specific number of days or after it’s been viewed a number of times.

One of the things that also appeal to me in mailVU is that recipients can play back your messages in whatever desktop email client or web browser they like, and on whatever device and platform they choose. The business version of mailVU lets you brand messages with a company logo and offers a widget to include on the company website so that visitors can leave a video message. A convenient back-end lets you manage previously recorded messages, adjust your template and even upload video recordings from your desktop.

A full feature description is on the mailVU website. Do check it out if you haven’t, or start playing with the mailVU iPhone app.

So, to explain how I would like to put HelloTXT and mailVU together: I would like to start submitting mailVU video messages to this blog through the HelloTXT email gateway, effectively creating video blog entries without too much hassle. Let me know if you like the idea.
